Magnesium fluoride crystals is a birefringent having transmission from violet to infrared. It can be used as optical windows, lenses, modulating panels or other optical components. Magnesium fluoride crystals doped with cobalt is a tunable laser material . At room temperature the Co: MgF2 laser has a wide wavelength and high energy.
